Renault Capture Failed to Capture Indian Market, Less than 10k Sold in 3 Years

Renault has stopped production of its compact SUV capture in the Indian market. It was launched three years ago but its performance in terms of sales was disappointing. From launch to March 2020, it sold a total of 6618 units. Given the declining sales figures, the company decided to discontinue it. The other reason for being out of the market is the growing popularity of Kia Celtos and the new Hyundai Creta. The Captur has never managed to outperform its rivals in India while being a very popular car in European markets.

The BS6 version was expected to arrive
Renault was spotted a few days ago for testing the BS6 compliant version of Capture and everyone was expecting it to launch in the Indian market soon. However, it appears that Renault has not fully tried to save the sinking ship. At the same time, after the increasing popularity of Kia Celtos and next-generation Hyundai Creta, it became difficult for the company to preserve its existence in India.

Only 6,618 units sold in three years
Reno Capture, launched three years ago, sold only 6,618 units in India by March 2020. Renault Capture’s distance from the BS6 powertrain in the BS6 era had determined that the company expected a further decline in sales. For now, Renault has no replacement capture plan and the Duster will be promoted as the company’s flagship offering in the Indian market.

A similar platform capture in the Duster and Capture
was based on the same M0 platform as the Duster, but lacked equipment by price. However, Competition never let things become easy for capture. Renault’s sister company Nissan recently launched the BS6 compliant version of KIX – which shares the platform with Capture.
The change from BS4 to BS6 emission norms resulted in the Nissan Kicks losing the K9K 1.5-liter oil burner, but later introduced its new BS6 compliant 1.3-liter turbocharged petrol engine. Currently Nissan does not have a large model in the Indian market other than kicks. The Renault can still rely on the popular sub 4 meter MPV Tribar in addition to the entry-level Kwid.

, however, Renault is now also working on entering the market with a new product named Kiger (codenamed HBC) in the sub-compact SUV segment, which is Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki will compete with the Vitara Brezza and other sub-4 meter SUVs. The company will put its side before the government – Tik Tok
